It is always a great joy to commemorate the greatest ever demonstration of love. This week marked what has been traditionally observed as the anniversary of the death and resurrection of Jesus. It is a time of deep reflection of the greatest sacrifice ever made.
This momentous act changed the course of life forever and is the core foundation of the New Testament Believer. The sacrifice on the cross, among others, signified a new dispensation in our walk with God. Among its profound meanings, what stands out to me is that the cross symbolises the ultimate symbol of humility. God giving His son to die was a great act of love. The torturous pain Jesus suffered was a profound sacrifice – one that can certainly not be relegated. Nonetheless, I find it very fascinating that Jesus died. Jesus, who is God[1] …died.
This remains enigmatic to me because aside the fact that God is eternal, God is above death.[2] God, Who is the author of the universe[3], Who is life Himself,[4] and Who is above all things (including death), subjected Himself to death. God being above all things implies that He cannot be subject to anything,[5] especially, death since it is at variance with His nature.[6] Yet the Life Himself decided to surrender momentarily to death for our sake. Being so infinitely above death, Jesus had to deliberately choose to die by declaring “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”[7] The God who does not compromise on His glory[8] put His status aside for our sake.
He was willing to endure it all and die for you alone even if no one else accepted Him. He had you in His mind when He was on the cross. That’s how special you are to Him. The ultimate blessing became a curse on our behalf. What a God! What Grace! He didn’t have to.[9] Yet He still did.
I hope we continually reminisce on the love Christ has for us every day and reciprocate it as much as we can. My little Easter gift to you is this specially curated playlist for the season. Happy Easter!

[1] Colossians 2:9 (NLT) “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.”
[2] I can go on and on about scriptures that speak about God’s immortality and His superiority over death. But here are just a few.
1 Timothy 6:16 (NIV) “who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.”
Psalm 102:25 – 27 (NIV) “In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain”
[3] Acts 17: 24 (NIV) “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth.”
[4] John 14:6 (NIV) “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
[5] However, an exception is made in Psalm 138:2 where David declares that God has magnified His word above His name.
[6] Since God Himself is life, His nature sharply contradicts with death.
[7] Luke 23:46
[8] Isaiah 48:11 (NIV) “For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another.”
[9] Matthew 26:53 (NIV) “Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?”
